Thomas and Charles Scowcroft, No.789.

Thomas & Charles Scowcroft obtained their coal from various pits around the Bolton area, transporting it by rail from their private siding at Highfield Sidings, Plodder Lane, Farnworth, which was served by the LNWR. Wagon No.789 was built in 1939 and was one of the final two wagons delivered to the company before the Second World War.

Balgonie, No.1402.

The Balgonie colliery was located at Thornton in Fife, Scotland. Originally known as the Julian Pit, the shaft which was sunk in 1883 travelled to a depth of 483ft, and was mined for house and steam coal. Our wagon, No.1402 was one of thousands operated by the company who were producing over 120,000 tonnes of coal per annum when the coal industry was nationalised in 1947.

The Bwlch Colliery Co Ltd, No.131.

Little is known about The Bwlch Colliery Co Ltd, however this wagon was inspired by the discovery of a photograph by Bachmann photographer, Bob Sweet. The photo shows his grandfather, David Owen, standing in front of a number of wagons owned by the company at Bwlch Colliery sidings, near Hirwaun in the Upper Cynon Valley, around 100 years ago.
