Details

Royal Train Sleeping Car No.2908 in Royal Claret livery.

The prototype was built at Wolverton Works in 1958 as Sleeper First SLF No.2013 and allocated to the London Midland region. Decorated in BR corporate Blue/Grey livery, M2013 was added to the Royal Train in the late 1960s/early 1970s as a Staff Sleeper. In 1977, No.2013 was refurbished at Wolverton Works for the Queen's Silver Jubilee year, and was out-shopped as No.2908 in Royal Claret livery, being classed as a Royal Household Sleeper to provide accommodation for support staff aboard the Royal Train. No.2908 entered preservation following its withdrawal in the mid-1980s, having been replaced in the Royal Train by Mark 3 vehicles.
