Details

JJA MK2 Auto-Ballaster Generator Unit in GE Rail Services Promotional Livery.

These wagons were originally 90 tonne aggregate wagons, built between 1988 and 1990 by Arbel Fauvet Rail of France. In 1996 some of these wagons were converted to produce the JJA MK2 Auto-Ballaster, with a total of 104 vehicles being converted for use by RailTrack. The vehicles operate in 5 wagon sets, usually consisting of four non generator vehicles with one generator vehicle at one end of the formation to provide power for the radio controlled hopper gates.

GE Rail Services lease rolling stock to various railway operators, with its headquarters in Chicago, USA. The livery carried by our model was applied to a set of auto-ballasters as a demonstration set, which is internationally registered for use on Continental Europe. The set is believed to have been exhibited at various European exhibitions, before returning to the U.K.
