Class A2 4-6-2 Locomotive No.60532 'Blue Peter' in BR Apple Green Livery with BRITISH RAILWAYS on Tender. Certificates signed by Paul Hutchinson, NELPG Engineer. 60532 ‘Blue Peter’ is the sole survivor of 15 Class A2 locomotives designed by Arthur H Peppercorn of the London & North Eastern Railway. The locomotive was built at Doncaster Works and out shopped by the newly formed British Railways on the 25th March 1948, painted in the apple-green livery of the old LNER but numbered 60532 with 'British Railways' on its tender sides. 60532 was withdrawn from service on the 31st December 1966 and put into store. ‘Blue Peter’ was then purchased for preservation in 1968 by Geoff Drury. The locomotive was restored to working order once more with the support of the children’s BBC TV programme of the same name. During its period of Mainline running, Blue Peter covered vast areas of the mainline network and private railways. In April 1998 the BBC devoted a full Blue Peter programme to the locomotives journey from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the restoration.
