8750 Pannier Tank No. 3650 was built by the Great Western Railway at Swindon Works in December 1939. It was withdrawn from Neath on 24th September 1963 but was subsequently sold to a colliery operator at Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen (P.D.Fuels Ltd) where it carried Stephenson Clarke blue livery. By the time it was withdrawn, it was worn out and was heavily weathered. It was purchased by the GW Society in 1969 and after spending a short time at Hereford, moved to Didcot Railway Centre. It was rebuilt over a twenty-one year period and returned to steam in July 2008 and initially carried the Stephenson Clarke colours (including weathering) before appearing in the more traditional Great Western shirt button livery in April 2009. Our thanks to The Great Western Society for assistance in this project.
