Details

West Coast Railways are an independent Train Operating Company specialising in charter trains – working alongside both tour operators and locomotive owners. Based at Carnforth, Lancashire, the company’s locomotives and rolling stock can be found working across the British railway network.

Coupled to our twin pack of MK1 Pullman coaches in West Coast Railways livery (39-002K), you can create your own charter train!

Built at English Electric’s Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows in 1961 as D6716, the Class 37/0 was first allocated to Stratford TMD. The locomotive lost its D prefix in 1968 before being re-numbered to work with the then new TOPS system in 1974 as 37016. Following extensive refurbishment and modifications in 1987, the locomotive was reclassified as Class 37/7 ‘Heavyweight’ No. 37706 and found use on heavy freight workings within the petroleum sector. No. 37706 joined the EWS fleet in 1997 before being sold in 2008 to the emerging West Coast Railways company – since which the locomotive has seen extensive use across the UK.

Our model accurately portrays the real locomotive and features include working directional and cab lights – with switches provided to turn off both the cab and tail lights. A 21 Pin DCC decoder socket gives DCC users a plug and play interface and there is also space for a speaker for those wishing to fit DCC sound to their model. An accessory pack includes screw-link couplings, buffer-beam pipes and snow ploughs which fit into the NEM coupling pockets.
